Eye Exams for Children

Children’s eyes change as they grow, so having regular eye exams for kids is always a good idea to ensure they are seeing as well as they should be.

Below are some questions we often hear from parents upon booking eye exams for their children.

Does my child need to know their letters to do the eye exam?

No. We have a number of ways of measuring what your child can see depending on how old they are. We also check a number of other things that are important for vision development such as their eye muscles and how the eyes work together. There are lots of ways we can adapt a standard eye exam techniques to suit children of all ages.

Ask any member of the team for more information.

Can children wear contact lenses?

In most cases, the answer is yes! We take into account the motivation and age of the child but we have successfully fitted children as young as 7 with contact lenses.

Children's Spectacles

The way a child’s spectacles fit them is as important as the lenses themselves. Our dispensing team are experts in fitting children’s frames and we have a wide range of specialist frames to choose from that kids really love.

Myopia Control

One of the more recent advances in children’s eye care is the management of short-sightedness. People who are short-sighted can’t see as well in the distance and this condition usually starts as the eyes grow in childhood – often just before they are teenagers. The medical term for short-sightedness is myopia.

There are special spectacle lenses and contact lenses than can help slow the rate of myopia in children.
